Independent Art
Course Description:
This is a unique opportunity for self-directed and mature students to more deeply explore their specific interests in art production, as well as exploring its contextual place in art history. Independent study also helps the interested student by providing a continuing course opportunity when an individual has exhausted standard art course options, or has scheduling conflicts. Students can choose from one of three “strands” of focus for their semester of work: these are 1. Sculpture and Pottery 2. Graphic Design and 3. Drawing and Painting. Students must complete an agreed upon number of projects for the semester, which are all evaluated on a set of demanding criteria. This is a great opportunity for the right students.
Rules & Expectations:
1. I will work on Independent Art assignments only, begin work right away and work until the end of the class period.
2. I will not distract others. If I need to get materials while the instructor is teaching I will do so as quietly as possible.
3. I will respect the furnishings and art materials of the room by using only what I need and returning tools to their proper place.
4. I will be sure my working space is clean before the bell rings.
5. I will use the back room computer for Independent Art research ONLY.
Correcting Irresponsible or Inappropriate Behaviors:
1. Verbal reminder of the rule.
2. Meet with teacher after class – kept in class for one minute after the bell.
3. Parent is contacted and student is assigned a cleaning job (during lunch or after school).
4. Detention
* The level of consequence may depend on the severity of the disruption.
